Paul is joined by Andrew Lenzo the owner of 303 Media and host of The Lenzo Media Podcast to talk about the impact of podcasting and how it allows people from different countries, from different backgrounds, but all with a similar passion to meet and exchange ideas.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Our podcast is all about media, we have filmmakers, journalists and fellow podcasters on our show where we find out what their day-to-day is like. A lot of people we’ve met are doing these passion projects but really working and studying hard to get into media full-time, 60-80 hours a week at their job and then doing podcasts and writing scripts in their homes. We’re showcasing that they’re not the only ones trying to do this – because it can feel quite solitary – and that their work is being heard.
For me it’s all about quality rather than quantity. I have a job outside of podcasting, but if podcasting became my job, I could see how the numbers would be important. But I feel it’s easy to get lost in that. The primary thing that makes an episode great is the content and the conversation, that’s why people listen.
I’ve deleted my Facebook and Instagram because I found myself posting and commenting on things that I think other people would like, which lost the authenticity of what makes me unique. In reality, the people who do best on those platforms are those who aren’t playing to the norm and are being themselves. It’s important to remember that you’re posting for your audience and not to compromise.
The most important thing to create the perfect podcast is asking the right questions. I still don’t think I’d done an episode yet where I feel like I’ve asked every question I’d like to, there’s always one or two where I feel like they could have gone towards a better story and where the conversation would have gone. As an interviewer, being able to ask all the right questions would be ideal and being able to have the guests speak honestly, rather than dialling their personality back and being candid.
BEST MOMENTS
‘Podcasting is a fantastic way to be able to meet people. I feel like I’m virtually having a beer with you at the pub, talking stuff.’
‘When you’re posting on social media and publishing episodes on platforms there are algorithms that favours certain shows over others. You can do things to boost your ratings, but it could cost you the quality of your show and the authenticity of the content you’re putting out.’
‘Everybody can post a podcast episode or on social media, what sets you apart is how unique you are and showing your difference.’
‘It can be very easy to get caught in the view count. It doesn’t matter what that number is, it matters who those people are that are listening.’

ABOUT THE GUEST
Before the pandemic, Andrew and his friend Austin were working as journalists at their college newspaper. Often underfunded and overlooked by major players at the university, they were forced to think outside the box when it came to funding.
“How can we get the most exposure for stories that had, and still have, a major impact on people in the community without ruining the integrity of our publication?
Members of the community often used their paper to make major political and social decisions that have a huge impact on the direction of the city and its citizens.
“How can you make an informed decision when there’s no independent news outlet giving you the facts?”
That’s where 303 Media started. In the musky, dirty, and damp offices of King Hall. Since graduating, they’ve continued that promise to empower those who don’t think they have the resources to take the next step.
Today, small businesses are fighting for exposure more than ever. Small businesses make up 99.9% of all businesses in the United States, yet corporations account for 62% of all revenues.
Online review platforms, search engines, and social media are the customer’s go-to source for information when learning about a new business. 91% of customers will visit a store because of an online experience.
It’s not easy to stay competitive in this landscape, but 303 Media is sticking to the mission.
