Has Health & Safety become a nerdy subject? When is it okay to truly “nerd out” about such an important subject?
Well perhaps that day has come, as Colin meets Sam Goodman, otherwise known as “The HOP Nerd”, a specialist in Human & Organisational Performance, who joins the show to discuss the most important part of any business: people!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
There is a thriving community of health and safety advocates in the world right now. People seem more than willing to put aside egos in favour of spreading the message.
One of the main challenges for anyone in a senior position who wishes to implement change, is that they must allow themselves to be vulnerable. This is a real issue for those who have been inherently taught that seniority equals infallibility.
Our mission is to make the world a better place in which to work, but we need to also ensure that we, as frontline safety advocates, are safe in the first place.
By engendering an atmosphere of honesty and open communication, we naturally encourage more voices to feel comfortable enough to speak out. This in turn leads to positive, overwhelming change from every area of a business.
The formula for bridging the divide between the preconceptions that executives and workers have for each other, is to alter the image that each believes about the other.
BEST MOMENTS
‘It’s been transformational in terms of my thinking’
’Executives don’t realise how visible they are’
‘We need to create an environment where honesty is possible’
‘If honesty is possible, then learning is possible'
