Description

Christian has been on a full-time spiritual path for at least the past 30 years. He has a gentle, but incredibly focused energy about him – he knows that his mission is to reach people and help them along their own paths of transformation. He shares his story of coming into his own as a gay Cuban immigrant to the U.S., his unshakeable faith in an all-knowing and all-loving creator, and what he thinks is the destiny of every human on earth.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- If you are constantly running away from the things about yourself or your life that scare you, you can never be free.
- Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the stuck door.
- Trust the people in your life who can cut through the noise for you.
- You can dream big dreams. Once you have the big dreams, divide them into smaller and smaller parts until you have a size that you can act on. Achieve the small goals, and watch them add up to the dream you never thought you could have.

BEST MOMENTS
“I wouldn’t undo any of it. The pain and the alienation that I went through…is being used for good. (That) allowed me to understand and empathize with somebody else’s pain. The details may be different, but I *get* existential pain. I know how to get out of self-hatred and self-doubt, and morph that into self-confidence and self-acceptance and self-love. Because I went through it.”
“The single most important thing that needs to happen in the world is the empowerment of women. …When women are in 50% of power in the world, we’re going to have a very different relationship to war and poverty and hunger and social justice and how we treat the environment to all of it.”
“I see the book as a means to an end. I don’t think the book supported me in my own process of transformation, I think it was just a way of getting out there what I’ve been living and what’s been living inside of my head and inside of my soul. Writing for me…is more work. I resist writing. And yet for me, it was part of my sense of mission. For me, writing the book was a way of reaching more people so I could support them in their process of transformation and empowerment.”
“You cannot ‘namaste’ your shadow away.”

ABOUT THE GUEST
Christian was born and raised in a large, close-knit family in Havana Cuba, and when he was still a young boy, his parents left Cuba and immigrated to Milledgeville Georgia, a few years later relocating to Miami Florida. He was always a student of both spirituality and humanity. He achieved his degree in psychology and one of his first dreams was wanting to join the Catholic priesthood.
He has felt the sharp loneliness of being “other”: when he moved to the United States and didn’t speak English; when he began to realize he was gay and struggled to reconcile that with his faith. He had his first experience with breathwork in his 20s and that precipitated a spiritual journey, and gradually he began to share his experiences with others through speeches and coursework. Christian has given TedX talks, created group and individual coaching sessions, and written two best-selling books that aim to help people create their own paths of devastating, healing transformation.
