Niamh McAuley is the video marketing manager at Purple Dots Media. Her expertise lies in camera operation and video content production.
In this episode of the Fire In The Belly Podcast, we hear Niamh’s journey in finding her creative spirit from childhood up to now. Her creative hands are busy right now with helping her clients make better video content online. Video is one of the best marketing strategies out there, for businesses and thought leaders alike. We should know WHAT to post, HOW to take them, and WHERE to post them. Listen now to Pete and Niamh talk more about her business today!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Whilst every child around her was interested (or maybe programmed by adults) to pursue a career in science, Niamh didn’t get pressured. She embraced her creative soul and honed her skills. She felt she was very lucky that her family supported her craft throughout.
Creating videos was just a hobby when she was a teenager. She didn’t know she’d one day teach people and make money.
It hasn’t always been easy, when Niamh’s posts first started gaining traction, she also attracted a lot of cyberbullies. This forced her to stop posting on her YouTube channel for a while and take a needed break. Time healed and slowly Niamh gained back her confidence.
In 2014, Niamh built her own brand—the Purple Dots Media. This passion project turned business involves imparting her knowledge in video content production.
Niamh didn’t always know she could be happy in what she’s doing now—sharing her expertise while also earning money for herself. Currently, she’s conducting workshops that can help individuals produce stunning video content with just the use of a mobile phone.
The feedback she gets from her clients has been overwhelming at times, it makes her question herself. Do I deserve all that’s happening to me right now? (Of course, she does.)
Though Niamh has built an extensive network in her business. She can’t help to think of the ties with some clients that didn’t work. But she knows things can’t always be forced, she just moves on and is grateful with the sizeable difference she’s making in the community. She wishes them well and hopes that they find the right mentor.
Choose Hygge (Danish word for happiness). Niamh has been quite interested in this concept lately. She has read countless books and watched informative films/videos in the past in which she credits much of her self-improvement and positive self-image. And she found out that the things she thought people don’t like (e.g. humour) are actually the things that draw people in.
BEST MOMENTS
“I’m inspired in making a difference.”
“There is no such thing as perfect; there is no such thing as success. This may be controversial… but success is just an opinion.”
“I used to think people laugh at me… Now, I just used it to my advantage.”
“I decided to just be myself through videos in Facebook and LinkedIn.”
