Hello Paul…
Paul Coghlan can still remember the greeting of the medical team when he finally was told about his illness and his small chance of survival. Paul had to go through treatment immediately that time, after being diagnosed with a rare case of Leukaemia. Fortunately, he battled cancer with his family on his side.
After those tough months, he discovered more of himself—he discovered his unstoppable mindset and his relentless determination. He never knew he’d get something out of his cancer journey. Today, Paul has served as a motivational speaker to professional groups, organisations, and businesses in improving themselves. His story is now a big inspiration and motivation to his clients.
You can listen to Paul share more on what he has learned from cancer and how he help others in this episode of the Fire In The Belly Podcast!
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Paul’s life changed once cancer hit. He was doing fine before it—going to his everyday job, parenting and enjoying the mundane. He didn’t expect his life would make a sudden turn.
Paul was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and was told he has a very slim chance of surviving.
There were many things pual took for granted that he could no longer do. What hurt the most whilst he was receiving treatment and recovering was the lack of fun interaction he could have with his daughter.
A cancer journey is not something everyone can do alone. Keep your friends close. Get the emotional support and encouragement you need. Be grateful of them.
It was very difficult for Paul, but he was always hopeful. He was more worried about the people around him—his partner, his daughter, his mum, etc. He needed to stay strong for them too.
Are you ordinary or extraordinary? He always asks himself this. Paul can forgive himself and be ordinary in some certain stuff—his hobbies, in his lifestyle and such. But never in his career, his passion projects, and more so, in his advocacies in giving value to people. He’s happy that he is able to shine a light about cancer and also help others get through similar drawbacks.
Trust is an important thing. When you’re in a life-threatening situation, it’s best to trust the experts. Doubts and fears will only result to a deteriorating mindset and health. Your willpower and positive mindset will greatly benefit you, and other people.
