An investigation conducted by the Potomac Riverkeeper Network alongside researchers from the University of Maryland revealed alarming levels of fecal bacteria and harmful pathogens in the Potomac River, raising significant public health alarms and highlighting the dangers associated with outdated sewer systems. The Potomac is NOT safe to be near at this time.

The spill is anticipated to persist for several weeks.
