Appreciate the Question
The 2022 Big 12 Media Days kicked off in Dallas yesterday and there was plenty to discuss. Baylor President Linda Livingstone introduced the brand new Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark, who will take over for Bob Bowlsby on August 1.
First to the podium was Baylor head coach Dave Aranda. Aranda enters his third season with the Bears as the defending Big 12 champions and also the media’s preseason selection to win the league—a first in school history. It would be the first time Baylor won back to back Big 12 titles since 2013-14.
However, champions are not made based on paper ballots or what a team did the year before. Aranda noted how this is a ‘brand new team’ and that while the lights are nice, he is more concerned in the process each player is going through in Waco.
A tough offseason decision was made by Aranda to name Blake Shapen the starting quarterback over incumbent Gerry Bohanon. But could it be a championship decision to lift the Bears to not only a Big 12 title but a national championship?
We discuss Coach Aranda’s press conference, Baylor’s perilous task ahead to repeat, the QB situation and more in this episode of the Bears Illustrated Podcast.
