Description

Empathy has become a buzzword over the years. Being empathetic sounds and looks great, but how empathetic are we actually? Is our empathy fake? How deeply are we connecting with ourselves and others? Awareness of the edge of our own discomfort, whether it be an emotion and/or thought, offers an opportunity for us to deepen empathy. Empathy is experienced in attentiveness, patience, and the ability to respond appropriately to what is needed in the moment. And what is needed in the moment must be clear to deepen the connection.

Sympathy vs. empathy

How far do you go down into the pits with someone?

What do you need?

Fixing is often a reaction to avoid emotions

Empathy starts with ourselves

Empathy and judgment

Suppressing emotions

Fear of losing control of emotions

It’s in our nature to connect with people
