According to The Marshall Project’s Keri Blakinger, Texas youth prisons are a complete and total mess. They’re places of tortuous violence, horrifying prisoner confrontations, and interminable stints of solitary confinement. More than anything, she argues, it's how these institutions have failed to set up youths for future success, and in some cases, have even become an express route for kids straight to death row.
