Duquesne University opened up their new College of Medicine for students to earn DO degrees. Here’s what being a doctor of osteopathic medicine means.
The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania figures that by 2030, the state will be short more by than 1,000 primary care docs. The Association of American Medical Colleges estimates a potential shortage of primary care physicians between 17,800 and 48,000 by 2034.
A study published in December asked about 500 third- and fourth-year med students across 125 schools about the considerations they’d take when thinking about residencies, and 58% said they’d be unlikely to apply for a residency program in a state with abortion restrictions. The NYT explained how abortion restrictions have changed the landscape for people who previously wanted to study reproductive care.
