We often think of Oregon as a verdant wonderland, which is why it’s surprising that Portland has some of the worst air quality in the nation—and it’s getting worse. So why is it so bad? And what can we do about it? As we sit smack dab in the middle of another smoky wildfire season, we’re sharing a conversation from earlier this year with the executive director of Neighbors for Clean Air, Mary Peveto. She’s been advocating for better air quality in our city for over a decade and says most people still don’t know how polluted our air really is.
