Every September since the ’90s, Portlanders could look forward to Vaux’s Swift season, when tens of thousands of tiny birds came to roost in Chapman Elementary’s chimneys together and thousands of people gathered to watch them. But last year, the flock started avoiding the spot, and they haven't returned, instead dispersing to other sites.
Today on City Cast Portland, we’re talking with Joe Liebezeit, the statewide conservation director for Bird Alliance of Oregon, about what's going on with the swifts and if they'll ever return to Chapman Elementary.
