Have you ever said, “I’ll be happy when…”?

When the project is done.

When you get the promotion.

When you lose the weight.

When life finally slows down.

When I find my true love.

That’s the arrival fallacy, the belief that happiness lives in some future moment, waiting for us to finally catch up. But here’s the hard truth: that moment doesn’t arrive the way we imagine. Because once we get there we still haven’t chosen happiness. On top of that our minds often move the finish line and we keep the “I’ll be happy when” mentality going.
