It's just Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund on the mics this morning, as Kim Grinolds is in route to Tucson for tonight's game between the No. 7/8 Washington Huskies and the Arizona Wildcats.
Speaking as a Washington Huskies-based podcast, it's hard not to think about what a game between Oregon and Washington might look like in a couple of weeks if both the Ducks and Huskies take care of business today, but if they both win it's looking more and more like ESPN will bring their Game Day show to Seattle. AND, it would likely be a matchup of two top-10 teams (if the game was played today it would be 7 versus 9 according to the AP).
But we can't think that far ahead when there's a game to be played tonight, and the Arizona Wildcats will present plenty of problems for UW. The guys first start on the offensive side of the ball for Arizona. The main storyline is who will be the Wildcats' starting quarterback; Jayden de Laura or Noah Fifita? And does Washington have enough on defense to contain an offense run by either quarterback, especially since UA has two quality receivers in Jacob Cowing and Tetairoa McMillan, as well as tight end Tanner McLachlan.
It's also notable the 'Cats are likely going to be without their starting running back, Michael Wiley. Can a run game of Jonah Coleman, DJ Williams, and Speedy Luke be enough to keep Washington's defense off balance?
After a quick break the guys turn to the other matchup; Washington's vaunted offense versus Arizona's defense. Arizona's defensive numbers are decent, but who have they played? Or is it another case of 'Us versus Us', Washington's season mantra? Does Arizona have what it takes up front to play more exotic looks on the back end, or are they going to have to try and heat Michael Penix Jr. up with numbers?
And depending on what Arizona tries to do, how quickly will it take Washington Offensive Coordinator Ryan Grubb to play his own game of chess against UA DC Johnny Nansen? The 'Cats can certainly try and muddy up the pictures that Penix will look at, but can Washington create their own pre-snap confusion with their shifts and motions?
To finish off the pregame show, Scott brings us up to speed on recruiting, what he's learned about the prospects that took visits to Washington this past weekend, and how the prospect list is shaping up for UW's next home game.
