Even with the loss of his most experienced defensive lineman, Ikaika Malloe is still very excited about his room. Why is that? He says it's a hungry group of players who is always looking to learn. When you combine those traits with the talented on hand, you have a recipe for success.
On Sunday, Malloe met with the media and talked about some of his youngsters, but the two he focused on were Jacob Bandes and Faatui Tuitele, two heralded recruits from their 2019 recruiting class who each saw playing time last season, but not enough to burn their redshirt seasons.
To say he's excited about their future would be an understatement, but he realizes they are young and will still make a lot of freshman mistakes. That's why he's happy to have Josiah Bronson, Tuli Letuligasenoa and Sam Taimani returning.
Each of those three players brings a different skill-set to the unit with Bronson adding the experience while the latter two are being counted on as the emotional leaders of the group.
In addition to the media's conversation with Malloe, sophomore corner Trent McDuffie got his first chance to sit down with the media since he arrived on campus in the summer of 2019 and third-year linebacker Edefuan Ulofoshio who talked about what it was like to receive his scholarship from the school in January and what his offseason has been like as he prepares to start from the jump once games get going next month.
