Singer, Songwriter, Free-Spirit & proudly-proclaimed bad-ass, China Marie pays a visit to The Junk and jam Hour in the Radio Free Brooklyn Studio, where she talks about taking that first leap of faith – moving from Portland to Los Angeles at the age of 19, just so she could pursue her passion for creating music.
Inspired by the Neo-Soul music her mother always played - including Leddisi, Maxwell, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott - China Marie crafted her own contemporary R&B and Pop music sound, and has so far collaborated with Ray J, as well as legendary rapper & record producer -- Too $hort.
Her songwriting process includes some tequila, some food – and oftentimes, lots of twerking. She also discusses the challenges of navigating a career in an industry that can be rife with gender discrimination and harassment, as well as owning her own freedom of choice to wear - or not wear - whatever she wants!
Fresh off the success of her first two EP's, 'Potpourri', and 'Made in China', her third and latest EP, 'Made in China II' delivers some heavy-hitting head-boppers, including Everything New, Company and All Night - tracks she generously shares on-air for us to listen to.
