Three years after shooting Alexander Hamilton in a duel, former US vice president Aaron Burr was arrested for treason. President Jefferson suspected him of planning to take some US territories in the west, using boats he was building in Marietta, Ohio, and launching from Blennerhassett Island in the Ohio River. A jury would find Burr "not guilty," leaving historians to wonder what the heck Burr was up to.
