Two days after Christmas in 1928, 4-year-old Melvin Horst is playing in a vacant lot with a friend when he realizes its dinner time. "Goodbye, Bobbie. I got to go home now," he says. An hour later, all his parents find is a little red wagon abandoned in the front yard. For the next year, local bootleggers and mobsters would use Melvin's disappearance to try and put each other out of business.
