In episode 51 of Tigers in 20, lead writer and host Christian Fowler and GoTigers247 founder Brooks Hansen discuss the latest in Memphis Tigers basketball and football, including a massive breaking news story on Memphis center James Wiseman.
Wiseman and his legal team voluntarily nonsuited the case, which - in simple terms - means they are dropping their lawsuit against the NCAA.
Voluntary nonsuit: Simply stated, a nonsuit is a voluntary withdrawal or dismissal of a lawsuit by the party that filed it that allows the party to bring a second suit on the same cause of action. It results in a termination of the case “without prejudice,” leaving open the possibility that the plaintiff will bring the same claims a second time. As highlighted in the definition above, if Wiseman's legal team feels like the NCAA doesn't want to compromise or if they do not agree on terms, then they can refile the same claims in the lawsuit a second time.
The voluntary nonsuit is a show of good faith to the NCAA. With Ohio State standout Chase Young's suspension being reduced from four games to two games, Wiseman and his legal team took that as a sign of good faith to their case as well, according to the source.
At this time, there has been no offer or compromise in terms of number of games to be sat out.
Following the discussion of the Wiseman news, Fowler and Hansen discuss Memphis' loss to Oregon on Tuesday night. The duo explains why and how the Tigers loss, but they also add that it is a good sign for Memphis.
Despite playing poorly on both ends of the floor, the young, inexperienced Tigers only lost to a very talented and experienced Oregon team by eight points.
Next, Hansen gives the latest that he's head on four-star forward Chris Moore – who is set to make his commitment on Saturday between Arkansas, Auburn and Memphis.
Finally, the GT247 crew discusses the Tigers game against Houston on Saturday. Following a massive win over SMU and a bye week, Memphis will travel to Texas to take on the 3-6 Cougars.
