In episode 73 of GT247's Tigers in 20, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen and digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield discuss the latest in Memphis football and basketball.
To begin the episode, the crew talks about Memphis' newest commit – five-star class of 2022 guard Arterio Morris. The No. 24 overall player in the class committed to Memphis on Tuesday, and the GT247 trio breaks down what he brings to the table and which former NBA All-Star comparison they came up with for him.
Next, the guys talk about more recent Memphis basketball recruiting developments. Class of 2021 forward Josh Minott included Memphis in his top five on Wednesday, and highly sought after 2023 guard Mikey Williams included the Tigers in his top 10.
With two five-star commitments in as many weeks and multiple high level players including Memphis among their top schools, Hansen sets the record straight on Penny Hardaway and his recruiting efforts.
There has been a false storyline surrounding the recruiting of Hardaway and the staff over the past several months, and the crew discusses what the actual narrative should be surrounding Tigers basketball recruiting.
Hardaway and assistant coaches Cody Toppert and Tony Madlock have figured out a very good system with their recruiting, and it has clearly paid off over the past few weeks.
The crew then discusses the Memphis football program. College football writer Phil Steele included the Tigers among his top 25 teams earlier this week, and Fowler explains why he believes other college football analysts aren't as high on Memphis as Steele is.
Finally, Fowler offers an update on Ryan Silverfield's 2021 class and what to expect leading up to the early signing period in December.
