Description

A lot of individuals who go to prison don’t get enough support that can help them get out of the muck instead of being mired deeper in it. As a speaker, educator, and community advocate, Robert Van Strawder is passionate about providing that much needed support to incarcerated youth and their families. A lot of this passion comes from his own experiences in inner city struggles and run-ins with the law – a story that teaches you something new every time you hear it. In this conversation with Julia Lazareck, Robert takes us through his journey from growing up with a troubled mother and an abusive stepfather in the notorious Donna Street neighborhood of Las Vegas to finding his way into politics and community work. He reveals how he looked at the bright side despite everything that happened. He also talks about what are his struggles and sacrifices are; how these inspire him to be successful; and what keeps him motivated to get through the challenges in life.
