“Who rescued who?” This old adage is perfect in describing the life-changing events of this week’s guest Mr. John R. Dingley.
When COVID struck, John along with millions of others in the hospitality field had to face unparalleled struggles. He started to paint just for a welcomed distraction and a creative outlet. Little did he know that destiny was hard at work bringing the gift of unconditional love via his rescue dog “Bronson” as well as the gift of meaning & inspiration!
Now John has created a legitimate business painting pet portraits and he has combined all of his loves into a venture that feeds his soul while giving back to rescues. Aren’t animals amazing?!!

As always, Val and Tommy start off the show with a goofy introduction of PALS mission--to create a network of compassionate individuals who care about animals and animal welfare. Tommy mentions how Val has had a major impact on him, specifically when he noticed when he was asking dog-owners where they had gotten their canines. Val adds that their number one choice is always to adopt. She adds, if there is a specific breed you're looking for and have not had any luck finding them, there are many other breed-specific dog rescues that exist. Petfinder is a great resource to consult first. And the ultimate last choice is to consult reputable breeders.
Today's guest is John R. Dingley, an artist who focuses on pet portraits. He came to Manhattan from Dublin, Ireland, and started off his career working as a bartender. Fortunately, John's fiancee motivated him to get back into art once the pandemic started and everyone needed to stay home and physically isolate. It was through John's renewed hobby that his pet portrait small business took off.
The way that John is able to work with clients is that at the moment he is only offering four sizes people can choose from; 8x6 ($70), 8½x11 (≈$200), etc.
John says that along with his services he donates %15 of his profits to a charity of the client's choice. Look out, because he is working on building his own website but for the moment he can be reached through Facebook.
John said he is willing to tackle big projects such as murals. You can find John's Facebook page by typing in Pet Portraits By Johnner or his Instagram at @johnnerdraws.
