Philippians 4:6 NKJV
6 Be anxious for nothing…
Big Idea: If we will be, God will do.
DISCUSSION:
1. To be and not to be (v.4-7)
Philippians 4:4-9 NKJV
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be known to
all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and
supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the
peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
Romans 7:15-19 NASB
“ 15 For I do not understand what I am doing; for I am not practicing what I want to do, but I do
the very thing I hate. 16 However, if I do the very thing I do not want to do, I agree with the Law,
that the Law is good. 17 But now, no longer am I the one doing it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I
know that good does not dwell in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but
the doing of the good is not. 19 For the good that I want, I do not do, but I practice the very evil
that I do not want.”
2. To think and not to think (v.8)
Philippians 4:8 NKJV
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever
things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever
things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything
praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
2 Corinthians 10:5 NASB
“We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we
are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,”
The inner life of the maturing believer is progressive clarity between what to think and
what not to think.
Philippians 4:8 MSG
“Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things
true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful,
not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.”
3. To do and not to do (v.9)
Philippians 4:9 NKJV
9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do,
and the God of peace will be with you.
Philippians 2:13 NASB
“for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure.”
1 Corinthians 11:1 NASB
“Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ.”
Being prayerful brings us the Peace of God (vs 7)… Being Obedient brings us the God of
peace (vs9)
Ask: What are the top 3 things that cause you anxiety to think about?
Action Item: Talk to God about the first thing every morning, the second thing every afternoon,
and the third thing every night this week… for 1min each.
