BIG IDEA for the Series: There is more to church and there is more to me.

1. What is a Wayfinder? (John 1:6-8;29-34 NASB)

In the literal sense, it’s a tool or person that helps someone navigate.

In the spiritual sense that we are using the term it is a witness to Jesus.

John 1:6-8 NASB

6  A man came, one sent from God, and his name was John.  7  He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.  8  He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

John 1:29-34 NASB

29  The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him, and *said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!  30  This is He in behalf of whom I said, ‘After me is coming a Man who has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’  31  And I did not recognize Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”  32  And John testified, saying, “I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.  33  And I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’  34  And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”

John Maxwell defines a leader as one "who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way"

A Wayfinder is someone who:
i. Knows the way of Jesus
ii. Goes the way of Jesus
iii. Shows the way of Jesus

A church member can be:
i. Religious
ii. Lost
iii. Prideful

A Christian can be:
i. Disobedient
ii. Immature
iii. Vulnerable

A disciple maker… is a Wayfinder

2. Who can be a Wayfinder? (Matthew 3:4; Mark 1:6 NASB)
Matthew 3:4; Mark 1:6 NASB

“Now John himself had a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.”

1 Corinthians 1:26-29 NASB

“ 26  For consider your calling, brothers and sisters, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;  27  but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,  28  and the insignificant things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,  29  so that no human may boast before God.”

The weirder you are, the more marginalized you are, the more looked over you are, the more mistreated you are… the more likely God would choose you.
