Eli Cohen is a mobile bike shop owner. He came on the podcast to talk about growing up in a kibbutz in Dganiya, Israel, what Judaism means to Israelis, his grandparents’ escape from the Nazi invasion, how his Jewish identity carries the pain of the holocaust, covid passports being equated to the “Yellow Star”, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, his family's immigration to Montreal that he rebuked by planning to run away, the freedom of school in Israel and the prison like ambiance of Montreal schools, getting rid of his accent to avoid attention, finding a “suspicious” bag at a phone booth, visiting Israel during Second Intifada, following a girl to live in Barcelona, but is then thrown off by the pandemic, causing him to return to Montreal and open his own mobile bike shop.
