“Love Jesus more than you love anything.”

It’s not poetic fluff—it’s the non-negotiable core of following Him. Jesus Himself said it plainly:

“Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.” — Matthew 10:37-38 (NIV)

He didn’t soften it. He didn’t add qualifiers. He drew the line: supreme love for Him or no discipleship at all.

Why this matters right now

• Every other love (spouse, kids, career, comfort, reputation, hobbies, even ministry) will eventually compete for first place in your heart.
• When it does, something breaks: peace, obedience, joy, or all of them.
• The people who finish strong aren’t the ones who loved Jesus a little more than average—they are the ones who loved Him more than anything else, full stop.

What “love Jesus more” actually looks like in daily life

1. When you’re tempted to sin because it feels good → “I love Jesus more than this pleasure.”
2. When fear tells you to stay silent about your faith → “I love Jesus more than people’s approval.”
3. When bitterness wants to take root after betrayal → “I love Jesus more than my right to be angry.”
4. When success dangles fame, money, or power → “I love Jesus more than any platform or paycheck.”
5. When prayer feels boring and scrolling feels exciting → “I love Jesus more than dopamine hits.”

It’s not about never loving other things. It’s about never loving anything more than Him.

“Jesus, thank You for loving me first.

Right now I choose to love You more than [name the thing/person/fear/comfort that’s competing].

I give You first place again.

Help me live like You really are my highest treasure.

Amen.”
