Tonight on Flyover Plates! Marc's recording software crashed, so we lost track of time and ended up doing an inadvertent 2-hour marathon mega-episode! We discuss:
- The long-awaited Tribute to Coach Mike. Marc expresses gratitude for our driver's ed (and tennis) coach who taught us defensive driving. He then spends around half an hour outlining the ways Rochester drivers are clueless: None of them have ever heard of turning on your inside lane when turning onto a four-lane road. Also, when turning off of a main road, most of them slam on the brakes, make their turn, then signal afterward, not realizing the purpose of signaling.
- Dr. Mike goes to New Orleans to sample its cuisines. Baked Alaska at Antoine's, Po Boys, Gumbos, and a surprising connection to Rochester.
- Fox's and House of Guitars achieve well-earned listings in a historic registry.
- We lambaste CNN's "Top 10 American Foods" which should be titled "Top 10 of the most obscure non-American foods you've never heard of".
- Mike discusses the food-related Project 2025, calling for the resurrection of Pizza Hut Buffets, Blockbusters, 1987 airline breakfasts, Salisbury steak, and more.
- Restaurant Reviews: Fairfield's Chicken French Sandwich, CoreLife
- Tonight's Plate: The Olympia Barnyard Plate. Scrambled eggs, hash browns, chopped raw onions, mac salad, Roch hot sauce, and buttered rye toast. Delicate and delectable.
- Mike makes homemade Philly Cheesesteaks for his family
- In Memoriam: Canalside Jewelers, Bamboo House, Benucci's, The Diplomat, Big Boy (Roc and OH), and the resurrection of FYE!
- We finish up by discussing our FOPpy plans for Halloween.
As always, thanks for listening and telling inmates and escapees!
