Health benefits for SMBs are not a one-size fits all solution. Similar to the employees themselves, each business is different and has different needs regarding their benefits. Every company has a unique set of circumstances around this topic, especially when they are trying to find a balance between a fit for the business, and its bottom line.
Our special guest provides a truly consultative approach not only to the SMBs that they serve, but to other trusted advisor insurance professionals all around the country. We are joined by Tommy Gaffney, Vice President of National Sales at Evolved Benefits.
Tommy and his team at Evolved Benefits feel that each client deserves a custom-tailored insurance program, and they pride themselves on being the most knowledgeable, client-oriented, and solutions-focused agency imaginable. Don't miss it!

Steven starts the show by recapping his week mentioning Thanksgiving and Hanukkah as many individuals celebrate in their leisurely time. Steven introduces the topic of the show for this week surrounding employee benefits and how they can benefit everyone when implemented correctly. His goal is to create impact for this up and coming Monday for individuals to become more productive. Steven introduces his guest Tommy Gaffney Vice President of National Sales at Evolved Benefits. Tommy talks about his past jobs and how he got into this business. Tommy talks about how benefit plans were becoming more important to him, after he learned how they worked he realized that he and other employees were not getting the benefits they deserved. He decided that he had learned more about the benefits than the individuals that had employed him. He took this opportunity to go deeper into this occupation. He decided to teach others about what they are offering to their employees and how they can better equip them to be supported. Tommy shares that many Americans are without health benefits due to their inability to achieve full time status in their jobs.
Steven asks Tommy about the method behind his madness. Before Tommy can answer Steven brings up health benefits and how that is becoming mandated more. Steven brings up that Tommy is a good example of an individual you want to surround yourself with because he is looking to benefit those who deserve the benefits they are working for. Tommy talks about the process he goes through to help the businesses that he is advising. He says that he needs to know their story to better understand what needs they have to cover. Tommy says he does not lead with “I’m going to save you money” because they are not coming as a consultative approach. Tommy explains that consultative approach is helping advise what will be best for the employees and understands the challenges they are facing. Steven talks about his approach to reverse engineering and explains how its having the end goal in mind and explaining how they can get to that point. Tommy agrees with this statement and dives deeper into how he can get to know them to best advise them into what they are in need of most. Steven talks about how he has seen in his own life the need for inclusive healthcare and how it should be affordable for individuals.
Tommy goes into some stories and experiences that he has gone through in his career. First he talks about the different jobs that are being offered and how the president has introduced thousands of new jobs, Tommy goes into how these jobs are going to be watched to see if the employers are offering minimum coverage. Tommy talks about a client he saw the other day and how it is hard for business owners to offer minimum benefits packages because many of them cannot afford the minimum package for healthcare. Tommy offers to help resolve the problems many business owners face when it comes to healthcare and benefit packages. He suggests for everyone to get their businesses ahead of the game and prepare for this rather then wait till the last minute. Tommy brings up the up and coming cannabis industry and how he has been handling helping them receive benefit plans.
Steven asks Tommy for some of his pearls of wisdom for the listeners. Tommy advises that research is extremely important especially when researching a skilled and well versed advisor. Tommy talks about revenue growth and how crucial that is to building a business. Tommy talks about the brokers he works with and they come back to Tommy to go over the different groups they are finding. They find patterns in the businesses that they advise and how the companies and industries are all different but need similar benefits for their employees. Tommy explains that when industries work with him they will have significantly less work to go through as they do the heavy lifting to make their jobs a little easier and less stressful. The two talk about how they have to have the mindset of helping the employees and individuals and that is what the goal is at the end of the day, to best fit the company and the employees that they represent.
