Description

In this episode, Matt, Steve, and Jessica will take a deeper dive back into the time when Steve and Jessica were getting back together to give things another try. They will each pull up their journals and read through their six months of dating post-divorce period. Jessica will start by sharing a journal entry about how her and Steve passed by some of their friends in Colorado as they were heading back to Boise together, and how ballsy that was because she had just a few months before then passed by the same friends as she was heading to her parents’ home right after her and Steve had broken up and she had left him in Oklahoma.

As they were dating, they were feeling very conflicted by the fact that even though they wanted to be together again, they just weren’t as attracted to each other as they were before. At that point, Jessica was really questioning whether she wanted to be with Steve or Jared (the guy she had just broken things off with). Steve, on the other hand, was also skeptical about whether they could go back to the way they used to be and whether he could really fulfill Jessica the way he felt she deserved.

Eventually, they both had a very sobering discussion about the possibility that they might have just been more suited as best friends at that point. They agreed that it was better if they gave each other what they could, and got whatever they couldn’t give each other from other people. Sometime after that, Steve’s dad intimated to him that he wouldn’t support or love him anymore if he continued pursuing the gay lifestyle, and it devastated Steve to a point where he started having suicidal thoughts. He decided to end things with Jessica after that, but they were still very supportive of each other as they co-parented Penny. Stay tuned for more of the interesting journal entries they will share on what went down after that.
