Tonight on Girl, Goodnight, we will be reading part two of "The Goophered Grapevine" written by Charles W. Chestnutt.
The Goophered Grapevine is a story of greed which involves a white Northerner relocating to Patesville, North Carolina in search of a plantation to start a vineyard. When visiting the land, he and his wife encounter a former slave who attempts to discourage them from purchasing the land by revealing its "goophered" past.
