In today’s episode, I’m going to share with you what I believe is the key to closing the wealth gap in this country. Our ticket to wealth is entrepreneurship. Black women are the fastest growing group of entrepreneurs because the corporate leadership is a pipeline to nowhere. We want purpose and validation, and we can get that by doing our own thing. It’s so rewarding to service people who look like us and we feel that we can truly be ourselves.
Unfortunately, a lot of black-owned businesses fail in their first 18 months. There’s a lack of startup capital, inability to scale, and a lack of support. Many of us, including myself, set our #goals as just replacing what we were making in our 9-5 - but a better goal is to build a business that’s positioned to generate wealth.
That’s why I have developed my Create, Protect, Monetize framework.
Create - What is the business? What mindset needs to be mastered in order to build what you want? What’s your zone?
Protect - Choose the right structure, protect the brand, and plan the legacy.
Monetize - Don’t jump into this too early. Elevate to CEO, put your IP to work, then put the marketing to work.
I believe that when more of us are able to do this, we can generate wealth. With wealth comes power to us as a people to influence, impact, and make choices.
