Many would consider freedom of expression to be the most basic human right. In truth, the right to life is predominate because without that, all other rights are moot. However, assuming your life is not endangered at the moment, free speech is otherwise one of our most important human rights. But is our speech actually free? In a very real sense, it has cost us dearly (in terms of those who’ve lost their lives fighting for the freedoms we enjoy). While we can rightly claim it as a human right, that doesn’t mean that it can’t be and isn't being violated.
