Episode 181 | Historical Events
In this History episode we focus on the 1918 Spanish Flu — the deadliest pandemic in modern history, which killed between 50 and 100 million people worldwide, was deliberately concealed by wartime censorship that gave it the wrong name, and produced the starkest public health case study in history when Philadelphia held a Liberty Loan parade and St. Louis cancelled theirs.
The deadliest parade in American history took place on September 28th, 1918. No memorial to the more than 17,000 Philadelphians killed by the Spanish Flu exists in the city today.
