Whether or not you read romance (or smut, or romantasy, or erotica, or all of the above, etc. etc.), it’s here to stay. It is a layered and complex subject with a centuries’ long history. It is buzzing in sales right now thanks to the BookTok phenomenon, but it is certainly more than a hot trend. Let’s just say, romance books really shouldn’t be judged by their covers.
