North Carolina is set to be the first state to mail out absentee ballots, starting Friday.

While Election Day is on Nov. 5, many voters will choose to vote with absentee ballots or during early in-person voting.

Any registered North Carolina voter can request a mail-in ballot. Voters do not need to provide a reason to receive one. One thing that is different for this election, though, is that ballots must be received by the Board of Elections no later than the close of polls on Election Day at 7:30 p.m.

WCNC Charlotte spoke with Micheal Dickerson, the director of the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections. Dickerson said he is confident about how prepared his office is for the upcoming elections.
