Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is bracing for a busy Fourth of July travel week—part of what experts call one of the most heavily traveled holiday periods on record.
According to AAA, a staggering 72.2 million Americans are traveling from June 28 through July 6, with 5.84 million expected to fly — a 1.4% increase from last year and the highest air travel volume ever recorded for the holiday.
Nationally, TSA anticipates screening more than 18.5 million passengers between July 1 and 7, with Sunday, July 6 projected to be the busiest day, with around 2.9 million screenings expected.
