Geoff Dyer is an essayist and novelist. His book on Andrey Tarkovsky's Stalker: Zona: a book about a film about a journey to a room is one of my favourites, equalled only by his other book on the Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood starring Where Eagles Dare: Broadsword Calling Danny Boy.
