On this introductory episode, Serena shares why she was inspired to start this podcast and shares some intimate details about why real estate was so important to her, and how this evolved into entrepreneurship, then later on, investing.
She also talks about how the passive income she was able to generate saved her throughout the pandemic when her event services agency was unable to operate. With this said, she wanted to start this podcast to share stories from others real estate investors to share how powerful real estate investing can be, and why it is so important to have more than a single stream of income to depend on.
Prior to shifting into real estate full-time, as a REALTOR®, and as an investor, Serena ran her own multi-award winning brand experience agency called Tigris Events for close to 18 years. Under her leadership, she grew the agency to ten full-time staff at their head office in Pickering and over 2,200 part-time staff across the country. They won 18 awards and were nominated for several others, in recognition of their work since 2014.
Serena made the decision to merge with another agency in February of 2022 to take the business to the next level. She is still involved in an advisory capacity but is fully supported when it comes to pitching on new business and planning events. This allows her to free up her time to focus on working as a REALTOR® and active real estate investor.
Between taking courses/exams to obtain her real estate licenses throughout covid, Serena was also going through rounds of editing for her book, The Accidental Entrepreneur, which came out in October of 2021. Her book chronicles how she went from surviving a troubled childhood to surviving as a self-styled, multi-faceted entrepreneur. The book also describes the difficulties faced along with lessons learned and mistakes made, all with the hopes of helping others who are or having been facing similar challenges, either personally or professionally.
Aside from work, Serena resides in Pickering with her husband and daughter (who was born just three months before the first covid lockdown). She is passionate about her family, traveling, health/fitness, wildlife and sustainability. She was the VP of Events the Toronto Chapter of the American Marketing Association from Jan-Dec/18, on Camp Trillium's Board 2015-2018 & volunteered with 2 Elephant Nature Park Projects in Thailand in 2017.
