The Baylor football team lost for the first time since that dreaded TCU game last season on Saturday when it traveled to Provo, Utah to meet BYU. The Cougars were not only better prepared for this game, but their defensive plan of attack rarely flinched. The A1 goal of the Cougars was to hinder Blake Shapen, and hinder the young quarterback they did.
Shapen finished the game 18-28 with 137 yards passing and a touchdown. That is not good. However, it isn't exactly what lost Baylor the game. Shapen's -22 yards on the ground took care of that. The one-dimensional nature of the quarterback on Saturday was staggering. BYU took advantage of knowing Shapen would never be on the run, and the Cougar defense had its way.
The Bears were solid defensively, and there is little to harshly critique on that side of the ball. It's the offense that gets the blame for this one. If your defense only allows 20 points in regulation, you have to score to honor that.
