Description

Welcome to Hail Media I'm Brian Wallace, MS Michigan Man 64, Left Tackle for Michigan Wolverines 1988-1991. This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepared us to take everything on!

Today I'm talking with Amy, a pharmacist from Georgia diagnosed with MS in 2012 right after she graduated from the University of Georgia with her Phar-D. Amy explains how she was diagnosed with Vitiligo at the age of 17 and how that was her first experience with autoimmune disease. Later at the age of 25 she was also diagnosed with a thyroid autoimmune disease. Amy knew enough to realize that she had issues that could be signs of what was yet to come. Two years later Amy started to experience drop foot while out running which set off the alarm something wasn't right.

Amy went to her doctor and after multiple tests including an MRI and a lumbar puncture she was told that she had PPMS at the age of 27. We talk about the fear and uncertainty after being told you have MS and how she handled her new norm.

Amy and I talk about the mental part of the diagnosis and how we had to learn how to manage the ups and downs of our journey living with MS and preparing for other life issues like divorce and other health issues we deal with throughout life.

Amy gives me her opinion of DMT's being a pharmacist and how she manages that part of her journey and also how she readjusted her path and now helps coaching people through their chronic disease journey.

If you want to connect with Amy, please check out her coaching website with amazing information and tools to use to keep yourself the best you that you can be.

FAM is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to mental health and assisting former Michigan team members with life's struggles after football, whether they are mental or physical. Division 1 football at the level we played it is brutal, and not all players come out of it in one piece. Visit www.michiganfootballalumni.org for more info and to make a tax-deductible donation.
