Welcome to Hail Media I'm Brian Wallace, MS Michigan Man 64, Left Tackle for Michigan Wolverines 1988-1991. This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepared us to take everything on!
Today I'm talking with Phoebe from Florida, diagnosed with MS in 2001 after having left side hemiataxia while she was in college. Phoebe spent months of testing and was even told she probably had MS but couldn't be diagnosed because of not having "multiple" lesions.
Phoebe has a family history of MS but still struggled getting doctors to give her the diagnosis.
We talk about the mental part of her journey and how she feared for her future having a family with the disease. In 2006 Phoebe lost her vision completely and talks about how she was completely alone because her husband was active in the military.
Phoebe gained her eyesight back after a year of darkness, which she explains by her faith in God and she has lived the rest of her life her way.
Phoebe earned her master's degree in 2014 and then was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Amy is an award winning author and is also a competitive ballroom dancer now after stopping her DMT's in 2015.
We talk about the attitude of fighting our disease and how we have to customize our journey live our best life.
We talk about the importance of community and connecting with people that live with MS and other chronic diseases.

We also want to call your attention to Football Alumni of Michigan - an organization that we care deeply about. Follow them here at @michiganfootballalumni . FAM is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to mental health and assisting former Michigan team members with life's struggles after football, whether they are mental or physical. Division 1 football at the level we played it is brutal, and not all players come out of it in one piece. Visit www.michiganfootballalumni.org for more info and to make a tax-deductible donation.
