Welcome to Hail Media I'm Brian Wallace, MS Michigan Man 64, Left Tackle for Michigan Wolverines 1988-1991. This is where a former Wolverine gets real about life after football - battles you don't see coming and training that prepares us to take everything on!
Today I'm talking with a return guest, Jonathan from Massachusetts, diagnosed with MS in 2022. Jonathan is the Director of Operations for the Department of Mental Health Inpatient hospital system in the state of Massachusetts.
We have an awesome conversation about the 5 stages of grief and how we manage them.
We break down denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance talking about our own personal experiences with them all.
We discuss how the stages are linear and how we manage the changes with our journey.
We also have a great conversation about the tools we developed and use to motivate our mind.
We talk about tools and how Jonathan found scuba diving as one of jis most important tools he uses for his mental health.
We talk about the importance of finding a community of people that can relate like we did with TikTok.
We talk about an MS event we are both going to be speaking at, MS Rising Summit, in Louisville, Kentucky in May trying to spread awareness about living with chronic disease.
When it comes to knowledge of mental health and being he has a chronic disease himself, Jonathan is incredible to speak to.
Check out Jonathan on TikTok and the badass scuba diving videos he puts out from his dives. They are amazing!

We also want to call your attention to Football Alumni of Michigan - an organization that we care deeply about. Follow them here at @michiganfootballalumni . FAM is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to mental health and assisting former Michigan team members with life's struggles after football, whether they are mental or physical. Division 1 football at the level we played it is brutal, and not all players come out of it in one piece. Visit www.michiganfootballalumni.org for more info and to make a tax-deductible donation.
