There was a time when we could not wait to see the first 28 Years Later movie. Both of us were disappointed. One of us did see the DLC for it, but these movies have lost any goodwill created by the originals. We talk about the latest news regarding the next part and whether it is enough to bring us back.
It has been an unspoken truth for decades that awards shows want nothing to do with horror. In recent years, the amount of quality horror has made it impossible to be ignored, but it is clear that the Academy and its ilk want little to do with genre cinema. How else can you explain the latest great horror movie being nominated in the musical/comedy category yet again?
We do not expect perfection for Halloween anthologies. The iconic Trick ‘r’ Treat gave that to us years ago. Now all we want is to see something that is a little scary, a little funny, and puts us in the mood for the season. Bad Candy fails in every possible way.
It is impossible for a Halloween anthology to not be compared to Trick ‘r’ Treat so Bad Candy’s solution is to just straight rip it off. The grumpy old man who hates the holiday fighting a Halloween character that is in all the stories, the troubled girl dressed as a witch, everything taking place in one small town; it is all there.
When the movie starts to do its own thing, it is even worse. One of the actors clearly does not want to be there. Most of the stories do not make sense. The attempts at being edgy and uncomfortable are just stupid and boring. The twist is dumb. This is bad.
