In episode 104 of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast drafting, design and 3-D modeling instructor Jeff Melson to the podcast to talk about how his career-technical program impacts the world. Melson gives credit to his students and gives an update to where some of his former students are now employed around the world. In addition to talking about his classes and students, Melson discusses the Tiger Apprenticeship Program and how it has not only benefited the college but companies that students are employed with as well. Melson talks about the collaboration between his program and various departments around campus where his students get hands-on learning while helping the college save money.
In the closing interview, Kollmeyer sits down with NEMCC art instructor Melody Shinn to talk about the Mississippi Community and Junior College Art Instructors Association (MC/JCAIA) State Art Competition that the college is hosting throughout the month of March. Northeast's Anderson Hall Art Gallery will house nearly 200 pieces of work from 12 of the 15 community colleges between March 2 and March 27. In addition to housing the state art competition, Shinn talks about the camaraderie between her and her fellow art instructors and how the trio helps bring the arts alive to students. Kollmeyer and Shinn also discuss how those who are not art majors or those who have reached the age of 62 can take art classes.
Between the segments, Kollmeyer gives a rundown of events that are happening in the next 10 days and also mentions a few events to be on the lookout for later in the month.
