Description

Major James Capers became the first African American to receive a battlefield commission. Major Capers experienced extreme racism growing up in the Jim Crow South, and even while training and working his way up to becoming a decorated officer in the United States Marine Corps. In spite of those experiences, he remained committed to his country and his Corps. He became a respected and legendary leader his men followed into some of Vietnam's worst battles.

In this episode, we pulled some of our favorite snippets of Major Capers' full length interview which you can find in episode 157.
