Jenn speaks to Taiwanese American singer, songwriter, Lara Veronin about the difficulty of finding stability as a child when she grew up in an environment having moved around a lot. Her memory of finding her tribe when enrolling at Taipei American School where she discovered her voice and blossomed. The sacrifices she made to pursue her career in the entertainment industry. Experiencing discrimination because of her mixed ethnicity as an artist in Asia, and her eating disorder battle which took years for her to heal mentally and physically. About Lara:
Lara Liang Veronin (also known as Liang Xin-Yi) is an established singer-songwriter with over 15 years of experience in the Mandopop industry. Debuting at the age of 17 as the lead vocalist for band Nan Quan Mama, she is also known for the duet “Coral Sea” with Jay Chou. Lara launched her solo career in 2010, releasing music and acting in a few short films and TV dramas. In 2013, Lara transitioned from pop star to indie artist and entrepreneur, founding ‘Meimeiwawa Multimedia’ with sister Esther Veronin. Their company independently released several music and video projects, including the popular track ‘Dida’, which touches on LGBT issues. Much soul-searching and experimentation culminated in the release of the visual album ‘Thousand-Faced Beast’, which accompanied the full-length film “Tomorrow’s Star”, directed by Esther and starring Lara. Since 2021, Lara has exclusively partnered with Newstyle Media Group to release her latest album “Dear You”, a tribute to Mandopop love ballads. Meimeiwawa continues to function as a platform promoting women’s rights and independent art.
