God, Government & You: The Purpose of Government
Romans 13:1-7
Two important questions in any election season:
1. Who will honor BIBLICAL values the most?
2. Who will fulfill GOD’S intended purpose for government the best?
Romans 13:1-7
1. True HUMAN authority begins with GOD and is established by GOD.
Three main areas:
· FAMILY
· CHURCH
· GOVERNMENT
2. The purpose of government is to UPHOLD JUSTICE.
· Promote GOOD.
“For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good.” Romans 13:4a (NIV)
·PUNISH wrongdoers.
“…for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.” Romans 13:4b (NIV)
Takeaway:
·PRAY for governing officials.
· Put your hope in GOD, not GOVERNMENT.
