Ridiculous Faith
1 Kings 19
The word “ridiculous” once meant silly, absurd, even stupid. Yet its meaning has been transformed to mean, amazing, and extraordinary. It is possible to have a “ridiculous” faith, as made evident by the Old Testament prophet Elisha, a simple farm boy in Israel who developed a ridiculous faith in the Lord God.
Two principles of ridiculous faith:
1. You don’t have to understand FULLY to obey COMPLETELY. 1 Kings 19:19-20
a. When God called Elisha, he left his home and followed.
- Ridiculous faith means we are immediately ready to say “ YES” to God even if we don’t have all the details.
b. God often guides with just one word.
- Abraham: “ GO.”
-Peter: “ COME.”
-Listen for that one word the Lord might speak to you in this season of your life. When you hear it, obey it.
2. Those who God uses the MOST are those who hold onto the LEAST. 1 Kings 19:21
a. Elisha BURNED his plows and KILLED his cows.
-Why? He was ALL IN!
b. Ridiculous faith says you LEAVE what’s behind you because you’re never going back.
-What “cows” do you need to kill? What “plows” do you need to burn?
c. Don’t hold on to anything so tightly that it INTERFERES with your relationship with God or your hope of eternal life.
-Never lose the EXCITEMENT of what God can do through you and your church.
Develop a ridiculous faith that leads you to do incredible things for God!
