Rou exits the carriage to follow the sound of the howl, a sound only he can hear. After warning Eight not to wake Trix unless necessary, he sets off into the darkness. When he opens up his senses, he smells wolf and that familiar scent of sandalwood and lily. Deeper he goes into the unknown wilderness, calling out for a response and receiving silence in return.
As the grass begins to grow taller, he comes upon a large, black furred wolf. He reaches out and when his fingers touch its face he is transported to a dark abyss. A small moon gives some light, and standing ahead of him is a man who offers both a gift and warning.
