Power of YET
- Have you discovered the “Power of Yet”?
- The “Power of Yet” is simply a positive growth mindset for everyone.
- Here is the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset
- A simple way to start changing to a growth mindset, is by the use of a little word, yet. In essence the word means a realization that some things are worth waiting for, and those things take work. It’s not always easy, but the power of this small word allows for success. Changing your words can help you begin to make the change from a fixed to a growth mindset.
What if instead of saying “I can’t do this”, you say “I can’t do this yet”?
What if instead of saying “I’m not good at this”, you say “I’m not good at this yet”?
What if instead of saying “I don’t understand this”, you say “I don’t understand this yet”?
What if instead of saying “It doesn’t work”, you say “It doesn’t work yet”?
What if instead of saying “this doesn’t make sense”, you say “this doesn’t make sense yet”? - The use of “yet” is particularly potent in these three situations: learning, maintaining engagement and increasing confidence
- Here is the flip side of the coin: “The Tyranny of Now”.
- Now is always looking for instance gratification.
- Now is all about in the present.
- Now has no patients
- Now has no persistence
- Now always gives up fast
- Now runs away from difficulty
- A growth mindset teaches perseverance.
- Perseverance - persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.
- Effort and difficulty are transformed from” I can’t do it” to “I can’t do it YET”
- Take any negative statement and add “Yet” to the end of it. The statement then gets transformed to a positive one. That is the power of “YET”.
